Pulp Sound Checks

The 1991 Hit the North sound check ::

This resulted in the fantastic Caff 7" version of My Legendary Girlfriend. I must say it's the funniest song I've ever heard. Jarvis sounds like a cross between Barry White, Beavis & Butthead and an old man rambling on a street corner! I have taken the time to transcribe the interesting bits.. Jarvis fills up most of the space between chorus' with delightful gibberish and sexy noises and I have done my best to try and put it in word form.. Enjoy!

(after first verse)
"C'mon we gotta... we got a late night bus to catch.. oh girl over there--- with the hotpants on... get on ahhoh get on.. G-g-g-girl over there--- oh with the hotpants on yeah.. We gotta get it on.. you gotta get it on ma ma ma oww! Good god now!" (chorus)
(after chorus)
"Sha-ka-bow mow ywah.. boy .. boyeeeeee!!... hey! Uh sha-ba-da-ba-dah shaba! Hiyaaeeh! Eh oi ah eh sha-ba-da-ba-da-ba-da-bow-di-bow-ba-di-bow eh oww! Good god now!" (chorus)
(after chorus)
"Oh! *clapping* I want you all to put your hands together oh *moaning* ohh.. yeah.. yeah, that's right yeah.. No I've not seen you since Thursday.. No he said he'd probably be in the pub tommorrow night.. I dunno err.. down by the markets uh.. yeah.. You know that bloke who tried to sell you felt-tip pens.. yeah.. I don't know.. oh I don't know listen.. listen! Why am I supposed to- how am I supposed to know where he's been? It not my... eh no it's your fault* Eh! It's my erzzzehe hey eh! Eh listen eh!! It's your prob- eh it's not my problem man! Get off my- get off my case! Okay? She's gonna... *mumbles-- I have no clue what he's saying here* Oh waa ah ba eh eh? eh? Yeah she's gonna- she's gonna give me shaka-bow-mow-mow-mow-mow-oww! Good god now!" (chorus)

The Portsmouth 1993 sound check ::

This is comprised of 3 songs: a mystery song..(which, by the way I think includes the line "large lobster"!?!), Babies and CHEESY LADY! Yes, She's a Lady with different lyrics! Oh, how I love this song! Those of you who have heard She's a Lady from Sheffield Sound City 1993 might be familiar with some of the lyrical alterations... Anyways I just love this version-- sometimes, when I'm listening to She's a Lady-- I just can't help but think of Cheesy Lady instead! It's definately on my top 10.
